What is a Tiffin Service?
A tiffin service is a traditional Indian meal delivery system where home-cooked food is delivered directly to your door in portion-controlled containers (called tiffins or dabba). The idea dates back generations in India, where a home kitchen would send a stacked metal tiffin of dal, sabzi, rice and roti to workers and students so they always had a proper home-cooked meal, wherever the day took them.
Unlike restaurant takeaways, tiffin food is cooked like home cooking — with traditional family recipes, everyday spices and no restaurant-style deep-frying to order. Instead of one hot meal on the night, you get a week's worth of home-cooked portions in a single delivery.
Saakshi's Kitchen brings this tradition to UK students with weekly tiffin boxes that taste like mum's cooking. Your dishes are cooked home-style, then delivered frozen with frozen storage — reheat from frozen until piping hot — freeze any you will not eat straight away, and heat to serve in minutes. It is the home food you miss, without the shopping, chopping or washing up.
Because everything comes in one weekly box, a tiffin service usually works out cheaper per meal than daily takeaways, wastes far less food, and means there is always something proper to eat when lectures, labs or late-night revision get in the way of cooking.
